PROJECT 1 : CONTEXTUAL STUDY SKETCH JOURNAL OF A TRADITIONAL STREET
The objective of this project is to create an A4-sized sketch journal dedicated to exploring a selected street. The objective is to capture the essence of the street by studying its architectural features, spatial arrangement, and socio-cultural attributes. The tasks include conducting on-site observations, making detailed sketches, and analyzing how these elements contribute to the street's identity and cultural significance. For this assignment, I have chosen Jalan Tun H S Lee in Kuala Lumpur. The expected outcome is a sketch journal that provides a visual and analytical representation of the street's unique character and the socio-cultural meanings embedded within it.
MY REFLECTION
Working on this assignment has been an enriching and insightful experience for me. Choosing Jalan Tun H S Lee in Kuala Lumpur allowed me to explore a street rich in history and culture. Through detailed observations and sketching, I gained a deeper understanding of how architectural features and spatial arrangements shape the street's identity. Additionally, examining the socio-cultural aspects highlighted the vibrant and diverse community that brings life to the street.
This project challenged me to appreciate both the tangible and intangible elements that contribute to the street's unique character. Overall, this assignment has not only enhanced my skills in sketching and observation but also fostered a greater appreciation for the cultural and historical significance of traditional streets.
Project 2: Poster and Seminar-Contemporary Issues in Asian Architecture
This group project involves conducting in-depth research on issues observed during our site visits from Project 1. Each group selects a street from our individual sites and collectively investigates the identified issues. The goal is to provide suitable and reasonable solutions for these issues. Our tasks include creating a research poster and a video presentation, both of which carry significant weight in our overall assessment. We focused on the themes of architecture and place identity, as well as cultural spaces in the street, to guide our research. The expected outcome is a comprehensive and visually appealing poster, along with a well-produced video presentation that effectively communicates our findings and proposed solutions.

MY REFLECTION
Working on this group project has been a great and enlightening experience. Building on the observations from our initial site visits, we delved deeper into the complexities of architecture and place identity, as well as cultural spaces in cities. The collaborative nature of the project allowed us to combine diverse perspectives and expertise, fostering a richer understanding of the issues at hand.

Working together to identify significant problems and develop feasible solutions was both challenging and fulfilling. Creating the research poster required us to distill our findings into a clear and compelling visual format, while the video presentation pushed us to communicate our ideas effectively and creatively. This process not only enhanced my research and analytical skills but also honed my ability to work collaboratively and present complex information in an accessible manner.
Overall, this project has deepened my appreciation for the intricate relationship between architecture and cultural identity. It has also underscored the importance of adaptive reuse and sustainable heritage tourism in preserving and revitalizing traditional spaces. This experience has been instrumental in shaping my understanding of contemporary issues in Asian architecture and has reinforced my commitment to thoughtful and culturally sensitive design. I am also grateful to my teammates for their contributions and for exchanging different wonderful ideas and being helpful throughout the project.
