ARCHITECTURE DESIGN 1
This module delves into the essence of design, focusing on the interplay of 'self' perception, the human form, construction principles, anthropometrics, and materiality within the context of tectonics. Through this exploration, the aim is to illuminate the intricate relationship between individual experience, physicality, and the structural elements that define architectural brilliance. This module is all about where each line and material choice contributes to the narrative of architectural expression, creating spaces that resonate with the self and embody a seamless fusion of form and substance.
REFLECTION
Embarking on this architectural design module has been an enriching journey that aligns seamlessly with Taylor's graduate capabilities. Delving into various assignments, such as the exploration of Architectural Design Elements & Principles, the orthographic drawing workshop, hands-on projects like creating the bamboo and sensorial spaces, and lastly the Self-Exploration through Spaces (Sensory Place) has significantly deepened my discipline-specific knowledge. (1.0 Discipline Specific Knowledge)
The module's diverse range of assignments has instilled a sense of lifelong learning, fostering an environment where continual exploration and adaptation are paramount.(2.0 Lifelong Learning). For instance, The first project which is geometry and form introduces basic understanding of design elements and principles, processes and approaches in generating ideas, developing design and translating it into form. Furthermore, engaging in activities requiring the creation of mock-up models and the integration of design principles into final models has sharpened my thinking and problem-solving skills. (3.0 Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Skills ). These assignments demanded critical analysis, creativity, and innovative solutions to design challenges, contributing to the development of a robust skill set.
Moreover, the emphasis on communication skills through the orthographic drawing workshop, presentations, and the group activities has underscored the importance of effectively articulating design concepts both visually and collaboratively within a team. (4.0 Communication Skills ) for example, the group assignment creating the bamboo structure has enhance our communication skills as we we have to work in a group therefore, we have to communicate with each other and design a structure as a group product. I am grateful for my group as they were all cooperative and engaging in this task. There were few hurdles that we encountered in the process of making the bamboo structure but eventually we get to overcome it as a group with a good communication skills.
In sum, this module has not only equipped me with essential discipline-specific knowledge but has also cultivated a commitment to lifelong learning, honed problem-solving abilities, and refined communication skills essential for success in the dynamic field of architecture.
