The area of study consists of basic building design, advocating passive design, and designing with nature to enhance energy efficiency in buildings.
ASSIGNMENTS
There were two assignments and an online test for this module. Both assignments were group projects. The groups were divided and assigned to us randomly, so all of us got to know each other from our respective groups. It was a new and thrilling experience as some of us had never met before. We came from different semesters, and some of us knew each other but not very closely.
ASSIGNMENT 01
In this assignment, we as a group of 5 need to formulate creative ideas on how to maximize daylight and thermal comfort for out chosen modern house. We chose a single story corner lot house as our site for this assignment. The fieldwork of this case study will include data collection, observation, and ideas to improve the current condition of daylight distribution and thermal comfort. This assignment also allow us to use relevant phone application for data collection such as lux reading and etc.
ASSIGNMENT 2
Whereas in our second assignment as the same group, we need to search for relevant information of “green” buildings accredited by national or international accrediting bodies (GBI, LEED, BREEAM, etc.) and assemble and reflect on the applied environmental strategies of one selected building. The case study research also involved a visit of the investigated building whenever possible. All collected information must be presented on an A1 poster and a 1 minute summary video for social media sharing. We as a team chose the International School of Kuala Lumpur as our green building site. This school was awarded by GBI platinum. The objective of this assignment was to raise awareness and increase public recognition of the importance of green buildings in addressing climate change and creating healthy environments.
This is our detailed A1 poster showcasing extensive research on ISKL and its remarkable green building. Within this poster, we have meticulously gathered and presented comprehensive information about the International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) and its innovative sustainable architecture, highlighting its eco-friendly features and environmental impact.
REFLECTION
In overall, it was a great experience working in this group for this module. It was new and also challenging at its own. I have learned a lot of things throughout this journey. The Taylor's Graduate Capabilities that i have achieved in this semester for this module is 4.0 Lifelong learning as the assignments in this module gives me the ability to develop self-depositions with skills with the aim of improving professional competence through self-directed learning, self-reflection and self-monitoring. For instance, I understands the importance of green buildings in detailed through the research and site visit. The lesson I learned from this module will be helpful in my future endeavors. Furthermore, TGC 2.0 Problem Solving, Critical and Creative Thinking Skills also played an important role in this module. This is because, the assignments enhance the ability to analyse, synthesize, and evaluate evidence to come to a solution rationally, critically, creatively.
